Cornerstone and Topping-out

Construction is people’s collaboration

Construction sites have their own special rhythm and energy. At the construction of the new Inter Cars representative building in Tartu, two significant milestones were celebrated simultaneously: the laying of the cornerstone and the topping-out ceremony. Usually, these are two separate events, but this double celebration gave me, as a photographer, the opportunity to capture both preserving the past – cementing the time capsule – and celebrating the future, the wreath on the roof.

The main contractor on the site is Rand & Tuulberg, whose professional team and busy yet festive mood made the photography enjoyable. My goal was not just to take documentary shots of concrete – I wanted to convey the atmosphere of the event: people’s emotions, the scale of the construction site, and the details, from the shiny time capsule to the steaming soup in the crisp weather.
